On the other hand, WIFI security cameras utilize wireless technology to transmit video and audio signals, eliminating the need for physical cables. They communicate with a receiver or network infrastructure using radio frequencies or Wi-Fi. Wifi cameras get powered via battery, Solar panels, or AC power supply.

Pros of WIFI Security Cameras:

Ease of installation: WIFI cameras are generally easier to install since you don't need to deal with Ethernet cables and power outlets in close proximity. They can be installed at any spot within the network range

Helpful in small spaces: Wireless security cameras are ideal for smaller spaces and apartment living, offering compact size, easy installation, and flexibility in placement without the need for extensive wiring.

Cons of Wireless Security Cameras:

Stable connection: PoE cameras transmit data and receive power through a single Ethernet cable, resulting in a more stable and consistent connection compared to wireless cameras.

Better image quality: PoE cameras can provide higher resolution and better image quality due to the stable connection and higher bandwidth capabilities of Ethernet cables.

Cons of POE cameras:

May cost more: Expanding a PoE camera system typically requires running additional Ethernet cables, which can be more time-consuming, complex & costly as compared to wireless systems.

Installation is slightly challenging: Compared to wireless cameras, installing PoE cameras may require professional assistance or knowledge of networking and cabling, especially for larger installations or when dealing with long cable runs.

Comparison between Wireless or POE security cameras.

A dedicated physical connection between the camera and the network switch helps minimize signal interference and ensures consistent data transmission.

On the other hand, wireless cameras rely on Wi-Fi or other wireless protocols, which can be subject to interference and signal degradation, potentially affecting the data transmission speed.

However, it's worth noting that the actual data transmission speed can also depend on factors such as the specific camera model, network setup, and environmental conditions.

Coverage Range:

PoE cameras are connected to the network switch & PoE injector using highly transmitting Ethernet cables(CAT6A ). Also Ethernet wires ensure that the cameras can be placed at greater distances without interference & losing signals.

PoE extenders are also handy devices used to extend the reach of PoE cameras. These devices take a PoE input and split it into two outputs, providing extended coverage and allowing you to connect multiple cameras at a distance.

Traditional Ethernet cables have limited reach due to resistance, that’s why PoE cameras can overcome this limitation. Some PoE switches have an extended mode that allows cable runs up to 800 feet.

Wireless cameras, on the other hand, rely on Wi-Fi signals for connectivity, which can be affected by distance( more than 10 meters), obstacles, and potential signal degradation. As a result, their coverage area is limited in comparison to POE cameras.

However, wireless cameras offer greater flexibility in terms of placement and can be easily moved or added within the Wi-Fi coverage area.
